01 Prayer mudra

 

PRAYER MUDRA

The practice of specific positioning of our hands is called a mudra. Every part of your hand corresponds to a particular part of the body, emotions and behaviours. Contact between the fingers and palms is a communication between our body and mind.

HOW TO:

Bringing the palms of the hands together, with the fingers and thumbs of each hand touching the other hand. The outer edges of the thumbs press into the sternum.

INTENTION:

This mudra is often used at the beginning and at the close of a yoga practice. It brings an intention of balance: the sunny clarity of the energy of the right side of our bodies (pingala) and the calming quiet moon energy of the left side (ida) is neutralised by coming together in the center. The contact of the outer edges of the thumbs and the sternum creates a pressure point for the vagus nerve (the wandering nerve), bringing you to a more meditative state.
